A fine exhibition nearing its end

On the internet, years ago, I had the chance to witness the photograph of many youth in Bristol tying up Bristol's supposedly slave-dealer's statue and throwing it into the water by Bristol. In the process of visiting the Bristol-grown graffiti artist's exhibition, The Art of Banksy "WITHOUT LIMITS", Touring the exhibits, I was reminded of this kind of youthful action. I realized why they had to permit photographing. They are so iconic!

 

Most were stencil work, sensitive in colour and symbolic in theme. Banksy's graffiti enjoys satire and lightness so much to the fullest that the works sometimes threatened to fly away. Some featured children: the proportion was such their heads are noticeably bigger than their bodies, seen in a cartoon way, almost like with Charlie Brown of Peanuts. This and other gizmos felt oddly heartening and warmly encouraging. The English part of nameplate was taken from a book on Banksy in English language, and it worked marvellously. One could actually decipher the English portion.

 

Some works seemed like they were torn from a concrete wall. Some works were behind protective glass on a white wall, clearly risen in reputation since their days in their hometown. There was also a spoof of Les Miserable poster, the one with a poor hair-flowing girl. Looks like Banksy also uses Pop Art methodologies.

 

The location couldn't be better: It is near Seoul Forest, in the central part of Seoul. This World Tour in Seoul is nearing its end, which will happen on February 6th. The Seoul Liteum, is holding this exhibition and it is in walking distance from the 5th exit to Seoul Forest Station on Suin Bundang Line. Also nearby Seoul Forest 2 Gil is home to many stylish shops and restaurants.
